Pulse of Concord: Finishing View of Survey 251
CONCORD, CA (June 17, 2025) — Last month we covered about half of the questions asked in our latest survey. The report from an additional month of responses remained pretty much unchanged by % in the items reported last time. Here is the update on the rest.
Q1. Zip Code of Residence
Ninety percent are from Concord with Zip Codes 94518 and 94521, representing 61%.
Q4. The current actions of the Washington Administration has or will have a positive impact on my family.
Fifty-six percent disagreed, 43% strongly disagreed and only 26% agreed. Not surprisingly when you cross this with those that indicated they were Republican, it was overwhelmingly those that agreed. Those identifying as Democrats were overwhelmingly disagreeing. When you look at those who had no preference indicated, came out with 48% disagreeing and 28% agreeing.
Q5. Our community believes that undocumented immigrants cause more crime than other residents.
I wanted to see what people’s perceptions of the community was, rather than asking them what they felt, because I think it would give a more accurate response. This was a sensitive area and I got some bumps on the wording. Results were18% agreed and 53% disagreed.

While there is a current media campaign to paint immigrants as causing more crime, the general data appears to support the view that immigrants are actually less likely to commit crimes. The divide here is again, quite stark, with Republicans viewing the community as believing undocumented immigrants cause more crime, with Democrats disagreeing and the undeclared also disagreeing at 51%.
Q6. In my neighborhood the average family of four household income is about…?
Some 40% live in a neighborhood where they believe the household income is over $120,000. Pretty much the same for all political or non-political respondents. According to the county-wide data for affordable housing determination, the average income in Contra Costa for a family of four is $146,000 or so.
Q9. The Concord Naval Weapon Station should be used as a detention location for undocumented immigrants while planning is still being done?
Another hot button question. People may recall this was an idea leaked during 2018 from the first Trump Administration relative to a group of bases (including Concord) that caused quite a stir. Seventy percent disagreed with 53% strongly. The political divide was very much apparent as you might expect with Democrats more disagreeing substantially.
Q11. Foreign Policy does not affect city politics.
Interesting that 54% disagree, while 23% agree. With the uptick in the issue of tariffs and its economic aspect thereof, and the ongoing issues around the war in Gaza, it leaves open exactly what people perceive as the effect on city politics. Interesting enough, Democrats are overwhelmingly believing there is an effect by some 70% in contrast with the non-Dems.
That wraps it up for the current survey, which will remain open for a few weeks, but I do not expect much change.
I am working on the next survey and would like to get into the classic categories of homeless, housing, culture, history awareness, unrest, perceptions of who we are, where we see dangers, where we see pride, travel, and of course, is there really a secret cult of Dodger fans in Concord?
