CONCORD, CA (Aug. 21, 2025) — Whether he’s summiting Mt. Diablo or sprinting intervals around Newhall Park, Clayton Valley Charter’s runner Buechter is eager to begin his senior year at a blazing fast pace. Buechter participated in numerous sports such as karate and golf growing up, eventually homing in on distance running as a sophomore in high school.

He first discovered running on St. Bonaventure CYO in fifth grade, where his favorite event was the mile. Once an Ugly Eagle, he decided to pursue distance running and joined the cross country team his sophomore year. After that first season competing in cross country, Buechter received the “Rookie of the Year” award, demonstrating his steadfast commitment and resilience.

During his junior year, Buechter was promoted to the varsity cross country and track teams. Last track and field season, Buechter accomplished his goal of running under 5:00 in the 1600 meters, a feat of which he is proud. Often running over 40 miles per week, Buechter is a highly motivated student-athlete, succeeding in balancing high mileage and AP classes.

Clayton Valley Charter cross country and distance coach Kevin White says, “Jack has always sought improvement every day he laces up his shoes to train or race. He is team oriented, yet fiercely self-motivated. It’s been awesome to see Jack’s improvements the last two years, and I am really looking forward to seeing how his senior season goes.” These characteristics that he exhibits are bound to help him succeed both on and off the trails.

For his senior cross country season, Buechter hopes to be the No. 1 varsity runner and next spring he wants to run under 10 minutes in the 3200. Outside of practices Buechter is a member of the Engineering and Design Academy at CVCHS. He is currently applying to various colleges, and plans on majoring in business/accounting.
