PLEASANT HILL, CA (July 24, 2025) — June was a busy and exciting month for Pleasant Hill, and one in which we wholeheartedly embraced all sections of our great community. We held Juneteenth and Pride Month celebrations in coordination with two Off the Grid events. Great food, music and community members made for wonderful evenings.

We followed that up with our Independence Day events, thanks to the Fourth of July Commission. A 100-yard Fun Run and Firecracker 5K started the morning off, with race proceeds going to local schools. Then our grand marshal, Olympic gold medal winner Amit Elor, led the annual downtown parade. From there, it was off to the Party in the Park for food and festivities. And finally, fireworks! Throughout the day, KTVU was filming “Zip Trips” highlighting our great city.

All these events made it evident to me that Pleasant Hill embraces the idea of an inclusive and welcoming city. It was refreshing and inspiring to see, given all the divisiveness going on in this country and the world. With that thought, I’d like to share the following message about my desire as mayor to remain committed to these principles.

The city of Pleasant Hill has long endeavored to be a welcoming place, where people of all ages, races, religions and orientations could feel that they belong. As we have done all along, Pleasant Hill stands with our immigrant communities.

We recognize that many in our community are concerned and afraid, following the federal immigration actions in our region and across the country. We want all in our community to know that Pleasant Hill’s commitment to all our residents remains resolute.

City services are available to all, regardless of immigration status. The city operates within our legal authority, with a focus on community trust and public safety – not immigration enforcement.

Diversity is a source of strength for a community and having those with different perspectives allows us to grow both as people and as a city. We will continue to be committed to dignity, fairness and access for all. We also support your right to express concern through peaceful protest. In times like these, showing up for each other – in voice, in action and in care – is how we move forward.

Pleasant Hill is, and always will be, a place for everyone.
