Letter to the Editor — Libertarians not Republicans
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (July 14, 2025) — Libertarians are not Republicans, nor are they conservative. In your latest issue, “Many local Republicans are not loud,” which I had expected to be about Republicans, the first two paragraphs discuss a Libertarian.
We Libertarians are as different from Republicans as we are from Democrats. For example, Libertarians believe in open borders, are against the ICE raids, are anti-war and non-interventionist, believe in the legalization of drugs, and believe in same-sex marriages.
As a matter of fact, in the latest election, the Libertarian candidate, Chase Oliver, was the first openly gay person nominated by a U.S. political party to run as a presidential candidate at the national level (a fact which most of the American press seemed to miss).
Please don’t put Libertarians in the same category as Republicans.
Pete Roget, Clayton
