Grab your gloves for these Contra Costa's Earth Day volunteer eventsCONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Apr. 20, 2022) — Earth Day began in 1970 as awareness began to arise about the effects of polluting the environment we all live in. The celebration provided a voice to this emerging environmental consciousness.

Today, many choose to volunteer their time in cleanup projects to mark the day. Earth Day 2022 comes this weekend on April 23 and we have compiled a list of cleanup and educational opportunities in the area.

Many of the outdoor activities happen not just on Saturday, but throughout the month. If you can’t join in one of these activities, celebrate the earth with a hike, a bike ride in nature, or by planting a garden. Earth Day is both a celebration of the natural environment, and a reminder of our responsibility to take care of it.
