Contra Costa firefighters fight fire with fun at annual Open House

Firefighters show off skills at annual CCCFPD Open House

Contra Costa firefighters show how it's doneWith fire the center of everyone’s thoughts the last two weeks, it was all about playing it safe at the Contra Costa County FPD annual Open House this weekend. Stations were set up around the district training center on Treat Blvd. in Concord with firefighters on hand for demonstrations and questions. Kids had a chance to wrestle with a fire hose, learn how to use a fire extinguisher, find out what smoke does in a house fire and see why you don’t put out a grease fire with water.

Firefighter Drew Rozner asked one group of kids “What do you if your clothes catch on fire? “Drop and roll,” the kids yelled.  “And who do you call in an emergency?” “911,” they shouted in unison.

Others sat in the Search and Rescue helicopter and saw how firefighters extricated someone trapped in a car after a crash.
