Contra Costa welcomes new county administrator

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY—The Board of Supervisors has selected Monica Nino as the new county administrator for Contra Costa County.

Our current administrator, David Twa, will be retiring this December after serving in this role for 12 years.

Nino has been San Joaquin County’s administrator for seven years. Prior to this, she worked in several different positions with Stanislaus County – becoming the county’s chief executive officer in 2012.

Nino will be the first female and first Hispanic county administrator in Contra Costa’s 171-year history. Her appointment follows an extensive recruitment process, where her long and distinguished career as a public administrator, experience in pandemic response, work with county hospitals and finance background resulted in her selection.

As San Joaquin County administrator, working under the direction of the county Board of Supervisors, Nino oversaw 26 departments, an annual operating budget of $1.9 billion and more than 7,500 county employees serving 765,000 residents. In addition, Nino served on the San Joaquin Health Commission, Sex Offender Management Board (appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown), the Council of Governments Management and Finance Committee and iHub San Joaquin.

Nino has the knowledge and experience to lead our county, and she is committed to serving all Contra Costa residents. We look forward to having her join us and working together in the coming year.
