CLAYTON, CA (Sept. 3, 2021) — On 09/02/21 at approximately 9:41 PM, Clayton Police Officers were dispatched to a hit and run vehicle collision that had occurred in the intersection of Clayton Rd and Washington Bl. Upon arrival, one vehicle was located at the scene with moderate damage.

As officers began doing their investigation at the scene, another Clayton Police Officer began following a trail of vehicle fluids that led the officer to Park Highlands Blvd. in the city of Concord. At the end of the trail the officer located the white van that had fled from the traffic collision scene. The officer also located the van’s driver/owner.

The driver of the van admitted to officers that they had hit another vehicle after running a red light. While speaking with the driver of the van, officers determined that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Officers arrested the driver for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a traffic collision. The driver was booked at the Concord City Jail.

Luckily, neither driver got injured as a result of the traffic collision, but someone could have been seriously injured in this completely preventable traffic collision.

Clayton Police thank the witnesses that stayed at the scene until officers arrived. Please don’t drive if you have been drinking.
