For the third day in a row, protestors gathered for passionate but peaceful rallies in Walnut Creek, Clayton and Concord. The Pioneer estimates at least 2,000 people were in Todos Santos Plaza on Saturday, June 6.
A few businesses surrounding the plaza were boarded up as precaution in the wake of the destruction and looting in Walnut Creek the week before. Several Todos Santos businesses, such as Yum Squared and Peets Coffee remained open all day.
Again, speakers shared their personal experiences and pain. Those in the crowd listened, cheered and many were in tears. Concord mayor Tim McGallian was in the crowd along with the other council members, but protest organizers asked that no politicians speak. Police presence was small and mostly remained on the outskirts of the park. (Photos and video by Tamara Steiner and Pete Cruz)
