New Concord skyscraper will be East Bay's tallestConstruction will begin soon on an office tower in downtown Concord that will be the East Bay’s tallest building. The building will offer a mix of offices and residences, sources said Monday.

The 48-story project will be a transformational live/work/shop/play mixed-use property across from Concord BART near the intersection of Clayton Road and East Street. The complex will consist of 150,000 square feet of office space, 860 residential units, parking for 8000 cars, a 22-screen cineplex and 18,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, including a boutique food market catering to locavores, people who seek to eat only foods that are sourced locally.

The building will be topped with a 12-story digital display, to eclipse that of San Francisco’s Salesforce Tower, says lead architect April Fuulz.
