Monument Crisis Center receives state award
Sandra Scherer, executive director of Monument Crisis Center, attended the state Nonprofits Day luncheon.

Monument Crisis Center executive director Sandra Scherer went to Sacramento on June 5 to accept an award as California Nonprofit of the Year for our area.

“We are humbled by this incredible honor and grateful to be part of the special community of California nonprofits,” said Scherer.

State Sen. Steve Glazer, D-Orinda, selected the center to receive the award for his district at the 4th annual California Nonprofits Day.

“The work of Monument Crisis Center in Concord is critically important to families in need,” he said. “It is a community-based, non-profit family resource center that directly confronts the root causes of poverty, delivers immediate assistance and provides comprehensive wrap-around, safety net services for Central and East Contra Costa County.”

Celebrating its 16th year of service to the community, Monument Crisis Center has registered and individually assisted more than 22,000 Contra Costa households. Adding about 1,000 new families a year, the center simultaneously guides thousands of current families on pathways to improved health and wellness, education, safety, shelter, successful employment, financial stability and independence.

Glazer will join in a celebration of the award at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Monument Crisis Center, 1990 Market St., Concord.
