Instead of competing for 20th world championship Blue Devils holding Virtual Gala Aug. 1

Since 1971 the Blue Devils of Concord have culminated its summer season at the Drum Corps International world championships. The coronavirus pandemic canceled the 2020 season so the local organization is hosting a Virtual Gala on Saturday, Aug. 1, one week before what would have been this year’s grand finale competition in Indianapolis.

Shaun Gallant, CEO of BD Performing Arts.

“Togetherness is such an important part of life, and I think we’re realizing that now more than ever,” said Shaun Gallant, CEO of BD Performing Arts. “It unites us, gives us a sense of belonging and encourages us to love one another. That is why we are throwing this gala. To come together and uplift our community, celebrating a brighter future ahead.”

Community Outreach Manager Teresa Saunders says, “In a challenging time of social distancing and canceled plans, BD Performing Arts is giving drum corps fans everywhere a reason to celebrate. Mark your calendars, throw on your best ‘living room chic’ attire and join BD Performing Arts at the Virtual Gala Coming Together.”

The online event will feature stories from Blue Devils alumni, staff and members who have enjoyed life-changing experiences through their involvement with the organization. The evening will conclude with a special performance by the Blue Devils, who won their 19th DCI World Championship last August.

The virtual gala is free to the public and will stream live on social media, but those looking to maximize their experience can purchase a VIP package. For tickets and information about this special evening, contact Jack Mizutani at jmizutani@bluedevils.org or visit bluedevils.org/support.

History

The Blue Devils were established in 1957 by Tony and Ann Odello of Concord and the Concord VFW Post. From that time the Blue Devils blossomed into the most successful drum and bugle corps in history with an international reputation second to none. Today, Blue Devils Performing Arts offer young men and women between the ages of eight and 22 high-quality educational and performance experiences in the areas of musical and dance performance. BDPA’s objective is to develop personal character through challenging physical, emotional, mental and social activities while promoting the values of dedication, hard work and commitment to a team effort. Entirely community-funded, the direction of BDPA is guided by a dedicated and unified effort of volunteer parents and a professional teaching staff, who work in close harmony with the young members to create and maintain a proud, responsible, youth organization.
