CONTRA COSTA COUNTY — Cars2ndChance, the vehicle donation program of the Lamorinda and Clayton Valley Rotary clubs, has given $50,000 to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

Cars2ndChance has seen a 50 percent increase in food distributions due to the COVID-19 health and financial crisis. Because of this they have set a goal of raising $100,000 for the food bank by Dec. 31 to fund about 200,000 meals.

“In each of the last three months, we have distributed 65 percent more food in pounds than we delivered the year before,” said food bank president and CEO Joel Sjostrom. “Our food bank, with the help of our donors, community and Rotaries, has been able to rise to that occasion.”

Cars2ndChance funds dozens of charity partners in Northern California from the sale of donated vehicles.

“Unused vehicles have a mission in improving lives. And we can help get them on their way,” says Mary Kemnitz, co-chair of Cars2ndChance.
