Concord caterer expands to boost supply chain
Jeff Schlagel delivers an order to a customer waiting in his car at Maverick’s Concord warehouse.

Overnight, Maverick’s Catering in Concord evolved into Maverick’s Groceries and Provisions.

Need toilet paper? A fresh lasagna to bake at home? A loaf of bread or a can of soup? Jeff Schlagel’s got you covered.

“We’ve launched an online store that allows folks who don’t feel comfortable or should not be entering a public store to order groceries online and pick them up without getting out of the car,” said Schlagel, president of Maverick’s. “We’ve also started up a home delivery program with fresh, bake-and-serve meals.”

Schlagel is able to procure a variety of supplies because of his unique relationship with US Foods. “We’re in a contract with them as an institutional position. We qualify the same as a university or a hospital, so we’re able to get some things in bigger quantities and we get some different services than restaurants.

“I think it’s a good way to get groceries,” he added. “If we can fill a need, that’s great. All we can do is provide in a way we are able to.”

Special deliveries to essential service workers

In the next day or so, Schlagel hopes to start offering special deliveries to essential service workers. He will ask community members and past clients to help out by purchasing meals that Maverick’s will deliver.

“It would allow anyone in the community to buy a meal online, include a personal message and get a meal to them,” said Schlagel, who has friends in the sheriff and fire departments as well as in the medical community.

“We’ve taken a look at what’s going on one day at a time, and we’ve decided to do some things to help the community while we’re on this pause,” he said. “It’s our duty to serve our country any way we can, as far as I’m concerned.”
