Canine comfort visits help hospice care patients cope

Last year, volunteers from throughout the Tri-Valley spent 5,193 hours helping Hope Hospice care for patients at the end of life. That figure includes 72 hours of canine comfort visits.

Pet visits can provide comfort and relaxation to hospice patients. A friendly dog might remind one of home or simply the day of brighten someone living with serious illness.

Volunteers can also help simply by talking and socializing with individuals in care. You can read news articles or play card games, or give a caregiver a much-needed break by visiting.
